Bayport MNLocal Girl Scouts and residents of Croixdale in Bayport, MN worked together on an artistic bench for outside the home for seniors. Together, they drew season-inspired pictures then recreated those very drawings into mosaics and installed them on a cement bench. This would have been much more challenging without the help of Vern and Eddie from Croixdale. Check out the map of all the Phipps Art Center art benches.
Stevenson ElementaryThis school features an International Baccalaureate Elementary Years Program. IB schools encourage students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world. The students become critical and reflective thinkers. I created eight different mirrors, hung at an angle, so any child could see themselves thinking deep thoughts in their reflection as they walked by.
Oak Park ElementaryThis project is in the cafeteria and the daily menu is actually written on the chalkboard. Just like hidden pictures in Highlights magazine, you can find the alphabet in tiny tiles starting left to right! The border is made of plastic spoons.
Becker Milddle SchoolINQUIRE at their wonderful new Media Center. We started by collecting plastics from every student and then sorted by color. Magically it came together and just sings!
Becker Senior HighFour large plain pillars denoted the Becker High School's cafeteria area and it needed some sparkle. Art students from first-grade to twelve worked on making mirrored medalias and they did a great job! WOW!
Hastings Senior HighThis is the entrance to the art department. I had productive kids working daily on this project. They did it with great care and craftsmanship. The eyeglass lenses pop out and are replaced with conceptual paintings rotated throughout the semester.
Lily Lake ElementaryMany teachers came to my basement studio and learned about mosaics for credit. A frog is the school's mascot.
